Motivational interviewing is an engagement style that guides a person through a individual centered conversation to help the person consider whether to change, how to do it, and most importantly, why to make a change. Motivational interviewing is used to enhance intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence, and has been found to reduce substance use. This presentation will discuss strategies and tips for engagement for both youth and adults.
