Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
ABA is a scientifically validated approach designed to increase functional communication, receptive language, expressive language, play behaviors, social skills, imitation, and independent self-care tasks. ABA programming relies upon discrete trial training methods and incidental teaching opportunities that can be provided in a home or in a center. ABA is a Medicaid and MI Child benefit for individuals, ages 18 months to 21 years of age, with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder based upon a medical diagnosis in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and who have the developmental capacity to clinically participate in the interventions covered by the benefit.What is
BFit?
Bfit is an individualized program for children and teens that focuses on skill building in the areas of physical fitness and good nutrition with the goal of helping youth achieve lifelong health and wellness.
Who Can
Enroll?
The Bfit program is for children and teens who are currently receiving services at St. Clair County Community Mental Health. Other eligibility requirements include:
- Being between the ages of 8 - 17
- Medicaid only coverage
- Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) diagnosis
- Cleared by physician to participate in a fitness program

Why
BFit?
People with mental health conditions have disproportionately higher rates of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and tobacco use, all of which can contribute to serious health problems. For children and teens with a mental health condition it is especially important to provide them with the tools they need. These tools include - knowledge, skills and support to take care of both their bodies and brains.
What is
Case management Services?
Case management services include assessment, planning, linking, advocacy, coordination, and monitoring to assist children and families in gaining access to needed health services, financial assistance, education, social services, and other community resources. What is
Children's Waiver?
The Children’s Waiver serves children with intellectual and development disabilities (ID/DD) and provides enhancements and/or additions to Medicaid State Plan Services from birth through age 18. The waiver provides Medicaid coverage to children who otherwise would not meet Medicaid eligibility due to parental income. Without the provision of the waiver, the child would require institutionalization because of the intensity of the child’s care and lack of needed support, or a child currently resides in a facility, but could return home with appropriate community support.

A Choice Voucher arrangement is an arrangement that is made between the guardian and SCCCMH. It is based on the self-determination principle that an individual should have the authority to responsibly control and manage an individual budget for supports and services that are authorized in the IPOS. CLS provides assistance with skill development related to socialization, communication and relationship building skills, activities of daily living, and participation in leisure and community activities. What is
Family Support?
The Family Support program provides case management, clinical and mental health assistant support services for families and their children who are diagnosed with a developmental disability.
What is the
Home-Based Program?
The homebased services program is designed to provide intensive services to children with serious emotional disturbance and their families with multiple service needs who require access to an array of mental health services. Homebased services are an assortment of intensive services and supports provided to families in their home and community, whereby treatment is based on the child’s needs with the focus on the family unit. Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Parent Management Training, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy are a few of the evidenced based treatments utilized in treatment. Infant Mental Health practices and principals are implemented with all children 0-3.
What is the
Outpatient Program?
The outpatient program provides therapy 1-2 times per week to children and their families. This may include individual, family, and/or group therapy.

Parent Support Partner Services?
A parent support partner provides parents/caregivers with empowerment and hope through direct support from someone with shared experiences. Services include skill building on systems navigation, self-care, advocacy, local resources, and natural supports. What is
Respite Services?
Respite services are designed to offer families the opportunity for a break from caregiving responsibilities, and are provided on an intermittent or short term basis.
What is
Serious Emotional Disturbances (SED) Waiver?
The SED waiver available to children with serious emotional disturbance who meet criteria for admission to a state inpatient psychiatric hospital or who are at risk of hospitalization without waiver services. This waiver provides enhancements and/or additions to Medicaid State Plan Services, as well as Medicaid coverage to children who without the provision of the waiver would require psychiatric hospitalization or institution, or would otherwise not be eligible while residing with their birth or adoptive families.What is
Wraparound?
Wraparound is a community and strength based planning process that promotes family preservation and independence. This is accomplished through a high level of coordination, which is individualized, and family driven. Wraparound Services provide a seamless interagency approach to unconditionally meet the needs of children and their families. Children must have a Serious Emotional Disturbance and meet two or more of the following criteria in order to be eligible for Wraparound Services:
- Multiple System Involvement
- Risk of out of home placement or in an out of home placement
- Receive other mental health services with minimal improvement
- The risk factors exceed capacity for traditional community based options
- Numerous providers are working with multiple children in the home without meeting desired outcomes
What is
Youth Peer Support Services?
Youth peer support is a peer delivered service designed to support youth with serious emotional disturbance through shared activities and interventions in the form of direct support, information sharing, and skill building. The goals of youth peer support include supporting youth by building a strong relationship based on mutual respect and strategic self-disclosure to increase hope, confidence, self-advocacy skills, and decision-making abilities.
